BCU school

Parents and residents in Central Kalimantan, have worked hard towards the realization of this school. For the first two years the school was a home tutorial centre before it became registered with the Department of Education in Kalimantan.

This effort has been made with the firm belief that a school represents one of the most meaningful contributions that can be made towards human development in Central Kalimantan.

In July 2005, the school officially opened to the public as a registered school. BCU opened as a bilingual, mulitcultural school with 28 children ranging from 5-16 years old. We hope to increase our numbers to 40 students in the next academic year.

BCU is the first 'National Plus' school to be registered with the Department of National Education in Central Kalimantan.

As a National Plus school, BCU follows the basic national curriculum, enriched with international curriculums. English is the main language of instruction, which is a first for Central Kalimantan.

Our Vision

Our vision is to develop a high quality learning environment which nurtures and educates children so that as adults, they will be able to make real and positive contribution to the development of their communities and the world.

 Map of IndonesiaWhy Kalimantan?

Kalimantan means "rivers of diamonds". It is a land rich in natural resources but there is much poverty.  It is inevitable that development and exploitation will occur. We believe that education is the key to sustainable and positive development.

There was a need for quality education in Central Kalimantan that had an internationally oriented curriculum. Local Indonesian residents together with members of the expatriate community took up the challenge with the support of the local government

The National Plus school was an appropriate model as it incorporated both national and international curriculums. There is no other English based school in the province and thus it will provide opportunities for the local people to meet the challenges of development.
